I was 34, married with three girls ages 5,5, and 4 and I knew I had a strong genetic risk of having breast cancer before the age of 40. My genetic counselor and surgeons recommended me to have have a prophylactic double mastectomy. It was very draining physically, as I went through two years of surgeries. But the most difficult aspect was how this decision emotionally affected me, my husband, my marriage and my children. There were quite a few tears shed the past few years. Two years of "drive-bys" - moments I walked past the mirror, every morning and every night, and would see the scars - constant reminders of what I had gone through.
This past month I finally made a decision to put this all behind me and move forward with my life. I spent hours researching 3D nipple tattoo artist and I was willing to travel anywhere in the country to have it done right. It was very important to me what my areola and nipples would look like cosmetically. Finding Shane was a blessing! He made me feel so comfortable with the process! He was professional, a great listener, and did exactly what I wanted (and what my husband wanted :)) including some suggestions of his own. Shane is truly an artist and his work is exceptional and beyond what I had ever imagined! Best of all, I came home and after seeing my breast my little girls said "I'm so happy your round things are back!"

Shane treated me with complete compassion through this process. I felt a connection to his passion to make my tattoo something special for me. I was able to completely trust him and his talent is obvious in his work. If you are someone who is considering tattooing as an option after breast cancer you won't be sorry. If you would like to talk with someone who has walked your shoes feel free to ask Shane for my contact information. I would be happy to talk with you.
